The Department of Environmental Conservation manages water and air quality, and solid and hazardous waste, through a variety of tools, including required permits.

A list of all the permits currently under review for the town of Pownal is available online, with links to information on each permit type. Currently, Beaver Wood Energy has applied for four permits:
Beaver Wood Energy does not currently have any permits pending for Air Quality. However, it is likely that an air permit will eventually be required from the Department of Environmental Conservation. An overview of air quality permitting is available online.
One question being considered for the Beaver Wood Energy proposal is whether an Act 250 permit will be required. It is important to note that, while Department of Environmental Conservation permits may be applied for as part of proving compliance with Act 250, these are separate processes. Act 250 is administered by District Environmental Commissions, governed by the Natural Resources Board. Act 250 information will be updated after the Public Service Board issues its ruling.

- Public water source permit for use of an existing well as a source of potable water
- Two stormwater discharge permits
- Underground injection of waste water
